Hello! SO!  As promised, I’m hosing a Tumblr-only giveaway for a signed hardcover of THE DARKEST MINDS, one of the character totes, and one of the few ARCs of NEVER FADE that I have. (I’ll be hosting other contests on Facebook and Twitter as we get closer to the release date.)  The only catch is, you have to work a little bit to enter :) - First thing’s first, you need to reblog this post (sharing is caring), which will get you one entry.- For an extra five entries, you need to post something TDM-related and tag it here on Tumblr as The Darkest Minds and  TDM Contest (and any other YA Lit related tag you want to use, but definitely those first two). This can be anything from a graphic, a photo of you and your copy, your favorite quote, an image that reminds you of the characters, your playlist for the book, a song that you think works with the story, etc. That’s it! Okay, so, I’m out on spring break and I decided to take on a little project. I was only just now able to start on it but meh.

So, little known fact, when I grow up I want to write and direct for film and/or theater, yet I’ve only ever written a few drabble scripts and I’ve no done much with them. Now I just want to test myself to see if I can do something bigger.

I recently fell in love with the book The Darkest Minds and through most of it I kept wondering how it would look on screen (because seriously, that book NEEDS to be made into a movie because OF ALL THE REASONS). However, I realized that if it did happen it would take YEARS. So why not take matters into my own hands? Of course, this is just for fun and I’ll write as much as I can when I can and I have no idea if I’ll ever finish seeing as this one scene took me literally FOUR HOURS to write down. But it was fun…

ANYWAYS

Below the Read More is a script I wrote that would be the first scene of the movie. Just so as to not confuse anyone I just feel like the opening should be kind of a montage/ scene-to-scene thing of a day at Thurmond and what happened when IAAN hit the US. So it goes from present day Ruby to 9/10year old Ruby.

So, I recently read this absolutely amazing and utterly perfect book called “The Darkest Minds”. Ya’ll should go check it out.

Super short summary: kids have superpowers, the government is crazy, you will cry at the end.

Anyways, I’ve been obsessed with it for around a week now and I decided to take on a little project, I’d been fussing around with minimalistic drawing for a bit and decided, eh, why not.

SO there are 5 types of super powers, each of them being categorized under a color-

Blue: Telekinesis

Yellow: Control over electricity

Green: super genious-ness.. stuff

Orange: Mind control

Red: Control over fire

I drew a little head for each of the colours/ powers and then added objects that represented the powers and colored the objects in with only the color that represents that power (the mind control power -orange- has a muzzle because in the book they were muzzled and I honestly had no other idea about how to represent mind control, i mean, HOW DO YOU DRAW MIND CONTROL) OH! I almost forgot! You see those 0’s and 1’s in the Green’s drawing? Yeah, that’s actually binary, as in computer language. Translated it reads “If they catch you they will kill you. Show your colors. I’m an orange. Black Betty.” It might seem random but I didn’t know how much code would fit in it so I just kept putting quotes in until it filled up. So yeah, little fun fact for ya. Also, I cheated a bit on red and used some orange and yellow to add depth to the hair/fire but no one needs to know.( I suck at drawing fire so… sorry) (actually I just suck at drawing in general so sorry about that) (oh well)

I know it’s not much but hey, it was fun, and that’s all that counts, right?

This is so rad!!!  You do not suck in the least. I can’t even get over how creative and cool this is!

You list the dead. You tell the stories of the past. You write about the catastrophes and the massacres. What about the living, Finnikin? Who honors them?

Finnikin of the Rock is so, so, so, SO good I want to cry just thinking about it. Melina Marchetta is basically a gift to us readers. The romance, too, is so swoony and well done. I figured out the big twist pretty early on, but Evanjalin is one of the most finely crafted heroines I’ve read in a long time, so much so that I doubted myself. I can’t wait to go home and finish the story tonight so I can immediately start Froi of the Exiles. (FROI. That is all.)


Here’s the summary:

Finnikin of the Rock and his guardian, Sir Topher, have not been home to their beloved Lumatere for ten years. Not since the dark days when the royal family was murdered and the kingdom put under a terrible curse. But then Finnikin is summoned to meet Evanjalin, a young woman with an incredible claim: the heir to the throne of Lumatere, Prince Balthazar, is alive.

Evanjalin is determined to return home and she is the only one who can lead them to the heir. As they journey together, Finnikin is affected by her arrogance … and her hope. He begins to believe he will see his childhood friend, Prince Balthazar, again. And that their cursed people will be able to enter Lumatere and be reunited with those trapped inside. He even believes he will find his imprisoned father.

But Evanjalin is not what she seems. And the truth will test not only Finnikin’s faith in her … but in himself
