GUYS GUYS GUYS IT’S UP I’M SO EXCITED FOR YOU TO SEE IT! What do you think? Any theories on what the symbol might mean? (And, yup, it’s a compass rose.) There’s also an excerpt of the first chapter available for your eyeballs to take in. :)
P.S. Thank you EW! (And, specifically, Breia!)
P.P.S. OKAY! Accidentally glossed over the other piece of news in this story: we’re releasing a bridge novella this summer! By bridge novella, I mean it takes place between books one and two and if you’ve ever wondered anything about:
- What it’s like to live in the world of TDM as a young adult who was too old to be affected by IAAN and too young to have lost a kid
- What parents are attempting to do to get their kids back
- How the skiptracer system works
- What’s happening with Zu
… then this is the novella for you! It’s actually one of my favorite things I’ve written (!) and I am, like, psychotically excited for you all to read it.
Because I’m feeling super guilty that the NF cover still hasn’t been released (STILL waiting for that info to feed out to all the various websites), I thought I’d do a quick Teaser Thursday. This one was inspired by a recent Ask and definitively answers the asker’s question about whether this character appears. Spoilers, obviously! Please don’t reproduce this anywhere else. I’m pulling from one of the uncopyedited files, so if you spot a typo please ignore!

So, I recently read this absolutely amazing and utterly perfect book called “The Darkest Minds”. Ya’ll should go check it out.
Super short summary: kids have superpowers, the government is crazy, you will cry at the end.
Anyways, I’ve been obsessed with it for around a week now and I decided to take on a little project, I’d been fussing around with minimalistic drawing for a bit and decided, eh, why not.
SO there are 5 types of super powers, each of them being categorized under a color-
Blue: Telekinesis
Yellow: Control over electricity
Green: super genious-ness.. stuff
Orange: Mind control
Red: Control over fire
I drew a little head for each of the colours/ powers and then added objects that represented the powers and colored the objects in with only the color that represents that power (the mind control power -orange- has a muzzle because in the book they were muzzled and I honestly had no other idea about how to represent mind control, i mean, HOW DO YOU DRAW MIND CONTROL) OH! I almost forgot! You see those 0’s and 1’s in the Green’s drawing? Yeah, that’s actually binary, as in computer language. Translated it reads “If they catch you they will kill you. Show your colors. I’m an orange. Black Betty.” It might seem random but I didn’t know how much code would fit in it so I just kept putting quotes in until it filled up. So yeah, little fun fact for ya. Also, I cheated a bit on red and used some orange and yellow to add depth to the hair/fire but no one needs to know.( I suck at drawing fire so… sorry) (actually I just suck at drawing in general so sorry about that) (oh well)
I know it’s not much but hey, it was fun, and that’s all that counts, right?
This is so rad!!! You do not suck in the least. I can’t even get over how creative and cool this is!
Somebody help me. Please. I want to read ‘the darkest minds’ by Alexandra bracken so badly but I can’t find it anywhere!!! Is it even out in Scotland? *starts screaming because there’s loads of spoilers floating around tumblr and I’m trying my bestest not to listen to them*
THE DARKEST MINDS actually isn’t available in the UK—it’s one of the few places I can’t ever seem to sell a book into (SIGH). But you can order it online through The Book Depository and I believe they ship to the UK for free. Here’s the full list of foreign publishers:
Germany: Goldmann
Poland: Otwarte
Australia/New Zealand: HarperCollins Australia
Thailand: Amarin Printing
Spain: RBA Libros
Russia: AST
France: La Martiniere Jeunesse
Brazil: Moderna/Salamandra
Complex Chinese: Sharp Point Press
Hey guys! Did you know TheDarkestMinds.com exists? And that there’s a very long excerpt of the book on said site? And that there’s a neat little Easter Egg of sorts on the front page (hint: radio, double hint: press play), and that both playlists are up on there? And that I’ve been slowly adding content to what I call the “World” page, which gives you a visual look at what their world looks like?
Now, I know there are some SUPREMELY crafty types here on Tumblr. If you ever create any original art, or you’re interested in contributing to the page either through a letter, a photograph, or manipulating an image (you must own said image or it must be a free stock image), definitely send it to me! Basically the idea is to put yourself in the place of these kids, or to play around with actual content from the book (like quotes, for instance)I already have a few reader submitted letters up and they are COOL! (Most of them have secret messages embedded in them!) If you contribute something, I will MAKE SURE you get something in return—and that likely is a shout-out in NEVER FADE’s acknowledgments and/or a very early look at NEVER FADE itself.
P.S. Those book reviews are actually up on Amazon if you want to look for them. It makes me laugh every time someone finds them “helpful.”
P.P.S. I’m hoping that the Pinterest-like plug-in is eventually updated so that you can reblog the photos onto Tumblr in addition to Twitter and Pinterest and Google+.
